FishAngler boasts numerous features to help beginning anglers reach new heights. As a seasoned veteran of the sport of fishing, however, you may think there’s nothing FishAngler can offer you. If that’s the case, you couldn’t be more wrong!
FishAngler’s app offering not only benefits new anglers, but also has functions perfect for more advanced, and even expert, anglers. Read on to find out how the best free fishing app can help take the expert angler’s fishing game to the next level.
Wind, Tides and Waves
Fishing offshore requires an intricate knowledge of navigation, wind and water patterns and conditions. Weather and tidal patterns can be the difference between your rod tip perpetually bent and cursing Poseidon for keeping every fish away. These patterns are also implicit in returning home safe after a long day of being out on the sea. Every offshore angler is glued to this information and treats it as sacred. Nobody with any shred of experience or common sense leaves the harbor without consulting it first.
FishAngler provides this information, and more, in the palm of your hand. The forecast features use up-to-date NOAA data to give you the day’s tide schedule and height, wave forecast, and wind velocities.
To access this information, simply tap the “Forecast” icon at the bottom of the app for a full array of forecasts, including solunar and weather. Select the forecast option you are interested in receiving an hour-by-hour chart outlining this information.
Fishing Reports
As an angler’s skill increases, often their scope of fishable waters does as well. A wide world of water and species awaits the angler willing to find them. FishAngler provides information on each species you chase.
Knowing your target can be helpful when fishing new waters and FishAngler’s database of more than 33,000 species of fish can help you do just that. Whether you catch a creature of the deep you need help identifying, or you’re just trying to learn more about a particular species, the database has all the species you want to know about and more.
The map filter allows users to view a specific body of water on the map and only view catches, photos and reports of a particular species. The filtered reports and images will show when people are catching specific species and the tactics they are using to catch them. This is perfect for the traveling angler doing their homework before heading out to explore new waters. It will also save precious time learning and experimenting.
To filter your search for a specific species, go to the FishAngler map, then tap the filter icon in the top right corner. This will make all catch reports, photos and fishing spots in the body of water you’re interested in, solely feature your fish of choice.
Log Book
Keeping track and patterning fish, baits, tactics and seasons is paramount to improving your fishing. Every expert angler knows this. Seasons change, fish begin targeting different baits and the once hot lure becomes an afterthought. The only way to learn and continually evolve as an angler is to test and keep track of this information.
A day of fishing can often require hours changing lures, changing retrieval speeds and moving positions. FishAngler’s aim is to keep your information stored and help you learn from these lessons. That way you can spend more time fishing, and less time documenting.
FishAngler’s logbook is an essential tool that allows you to keep track of every aspect of your catches. After a catch, you can upload a photo of your fish and add personal information regarding the catch. You can add details like water conditions, bait used, retrieval speed, tactics employed, time of year, time of day, wind velocity and much more.
After adding all your information you can choose to share your post with the general FishAngler community, only your friends, or keep it completely private for your reference. You can then come back to this information when you want to study the patterns that led to your success.
Digital Tackle Box
Another great tool for keeping track of your day on the water is the digital tackle box. Keep track of your favorite lures, baits, or flies, and other gear and tackle. You can then add important information regarding your favorites like when they work best, conditions they work best in, what fish they helped land, and how to agitate them or other presentation tactics. This provides you with a personal library of your tackle with specific information about what works.
To add your favorite fishing tackle, select on the “More” icon in the bottom right of your screen, then tap “My Gear” and begin adding your favorites.
Regardless of your fishing level, FishAngler is the only free fishing app that provides this much data at your fingertips. All in one place. Enjoy and tight lines!
