The true beauty of angling is its diversity! Fishing is a universal skill that extents to almost every country in the world. Tactics and species are different everywhere you go and can even change depending on the day. That’s why the FishAngler app can be so useful, as it offers tools and features for every type of fishing across the globe.

Nobody may realize this utility better than the FishAngler team. With members spread out across two continents, our expertise in fishing differs as much as our geography. While some may be trolling offshore in Florida for sailfish and marlin, others are chasing steelhead on the West Coast. And even more of our extended team may be casting for peacock bass and other tropical species in South America!

Below, FishAngler team members from all over provide their favorite functions for their specific type of fishing.

My favorite function on the FishAngler app has got to be the Fish Forecast (Solunar) table. Spring in the Rocky Mountains can be all over the place which makes fishing for picky trout even trickier. When the temperatures are fluctuating and you can expect sun, rain or snow on almost any day, while also dealing with spring runoff, I use the Fish Forecast to help find when the fish should be most active. This feature is even helpful when summer comes on strong and will show me when the heat of the day will drive trout to the bottom of the rivers and creeks.

I’m still exploring Oregon and the diversity of waters and fish species this region holds. So with that in mind, my favorite app feature at this time is Maps. I like getting off the grid and finding new fishing spots. With the GPS maps; I can locate any body of water around me pretty quickly. It really just depends how much I feel like exploring that day. I can also zoom in to find some potential “honey holes” and some access points with the hybrid satellite imagery. And since I’m exploring new territory; the map feature shows me all the paved and unnamed dirt roads and how to get there. Once I’m there; I’m using the aerial imagery to see what’s around that next river bend.

While fishing for tarpon in South Florida or bonefish in the Bahamas is a dream, my neck of the woods sees far less fair-weather fishing days. That’s why the Forecast functions are so essential when it comes to planning my day, weekend or extended fishing trips. If the conditions aren’t favorable, I could be dealing with frozen guides, and frostbitten toes and fingers. If I’m going to lose a digit, I better get a fish out of it! The Fish Forecast feature combines a bunch of great data to help determine whether my efforts will be worth it, or if I’m better off warming my insides with a Thermos of hot coffee on the beach.

I use all the Forecast functions daily!! The Fish Forecast along with the Tidal Forecast and Moon Phase are useful features, and major factors when fishing wahoo, tuna, snook, and tarpon. At least for me and anyone else that knows what they’re doing out on the ocean! 😉

As a marine biologist and an outdoors-woman I love understanding the biological reasons behind why animals behave certain ways. I feel I can best target a species by knowing as much about the species I am targeting. The Fish Species profiles on the FishAngler app help me do just that! The Fish Species list includes 33,000+ fish, with detailed profiles for the most popular sport fish. The species type lets me know where the species spends the most time. Feeding behavior gives me insight as to what baits to choose. And the reproduction section gives me insights on some key behavioral patterns that can drive feeding patterns. The Fish Species feature provides this information in a simple, easy-to-read format that allows me to digest the information quickly.

Wherever you are and whatever your favorite species to cast for is, the FishAngler app will make sure you’re making the most of every day on the water.
