Warm weather is within sight and nothing gets us fired up like casting for big bucket mouths! Summer may be our favorite time to be on the water, but it’s not always the best time for bass activity. When the sun gets high in that Texas sky (or wherever you’re fishing) bass tend to dive deep, leaving us wondering if there were any fish in the water to begin with. Below are some of the best ways the FishAngler app can help keep your rod bent for bass all year long.

Check the Fish Forecast

There are few joys in life greater than watching as a hungry bass inhales your lure. If one tactic worked all day and all year, most of us would have no need for other types of lures. But, sadly, topwater tends to work best in the early mornings and right at dusk.

Cue the FishAngler Fish Forecast. This forecast uses the position of the sun in relation to the moon to predict the height of fish activity. The handy chart on the app shows you these peak times down to the hour. Plan your trip accordingly and discover the perfect time to start pulling that popper through the weeds.

Examine Your Feed

Any self-respecting angler cringes at the sight of other people fishing their spot. It’s not right. That being said, there is also no better place to get information than from fellow anglers on the water.

Sometimes you just can’t figure out what color worm is working best or which crank bait to use. Head to your Local Feed to glean some insights from other anglers’ successes in your neck of the woods.

Follow Bodies of Water

If you’re really trying to hone your skills on a particular body of water, follow those bodies of water on the app. Find posts by anglers who are only fishing that lake, pond, or river, then dive into their catch information. This is the perfect strategy for bass tournaments on unfamiliar waters. You can find the hottest areas of the lake, the best colors and sizes for lures, and even optimum fishing times.

How to follow Bodies of Water:

  • Select the “More” menu in the bottom right-hand corner of the FishAngler app screen.
  • Select “Bodies of Water near me” under the Discover section.
  • Scroll through nearby bodies of water and choose “Follow” next to each one you’d like to add.

OR

  • Select the “Map” feature in the bottom navigation menu of the FishAngler app screen.
  • Hone in on a blue waypoint marker (a body of water) and select it.
    • You can also apply a map layer by selecting the filter icon in the upper-right hand corner of your map screen and selecting just the Bodies of Water filter.
  • Click on the body of water information card that slides up at the bottom of the screen and select “Follow”.
Wind at Your Back

Bass fishing often requires precision. You’re often casting into weeds, overhanging branches, logs and even under docks. These all provide perfect cover and shade for large bass. But it can be extremely difficult to cast when you’re fighting wind that’s constantly changing direction. Before you even get to the water, try pulling up the Wind Forecast on the app. You will have a better understanding of which direction the wind is blowing. You’ll also get the maximum gust speeds and which times of day will be the windiest.

Armed with that knowledge, you can pick which side of the lake to target. You can look for bays and inlets that may be guarded from certain wind patterns, and figure out how to cast with the wind and not against it.

Join the Club

If you’re still looking for more information, be sure to check out bass fishing groups and clubs in your area. You can explore and join fishing clubs, including everything from general social groups, to conservation-minded groups and even tournament fishing clubs.

The amount of fishing knowledge is near limitless within groups and clubs. Connecting with like-minded anglers will surely help you land more bass and other species.

Go Your Own Way

The FishAngler map has bodies of water labeled and is easy to navigate. Use them to find new ponds, lakes and backwaters that are teaming with largemouth and smallmouth bass! You can scan the map and tap on waypoints to see pictures and all the catch information of other anglers’ successes. Open up specific map layers to help refine your search by selecting posted photos, bodies of water, catches, fishing reports, and fishing spots.

Our maps also have a complete road system available to help you navigate to new waters! Select a body of water, and when the information card slides up at the bottom of the screen simply click the arrow icon (to the right of the weather icon in the lower right-hand corner of the card.) You will be provided the option to open directions in one of the map apps you have on your phone, copy the address or copy the coordinates.
