A secret fishing spot is something truly worth guarding. We know that hard work, dedication and some luck are all factors that go into finding a productive fishing spot. Sometimes these places can’t be shared with just anyone. There’s nothing more infuriating than showing up to your personal honey hole only to find several different anglers with lines already in the water.
Some FishAngler users are often hesitant to post their catches for fear of betraying these hard-earned fishing spots. But that doesn’t need to be the case. At FishAngler, we value your privacy. When posting to the app, we have built in options to share as much or little as you are comfortable with. This leaves you the ability to keep your posts, where they are on your map, and all catch data you’ve added visible to you only, to the Page and/or Group you’ve identified, or closed to the public altogether.
Step 1: Post a Catch
You fought that massive bass for thirty minutes, now it’s time to snap a photo and post it on your FishAngler app profile. Whether you’re posting a catch, a fishing spot, or a report, you will be prompted to add a photo (optional) and description of your post.
Step 2: Catch Position
If you’re looking to keep the location of your catch anonymous, pay attention to the map provided below the Description and Catch Date & Time fields. Tap the map, and you’ll have the ability to confirm or reposition the crosshairs on the map. Keep in mind that this will keep the location private, but not the entire post. If you want to keep the catch post private, you will select this option on the very last step of posting, outlined below under “Last Step: Post Your Catch!”
Note that just above the Catch Position map you will see “Public”. Tap that for the option to change the position to private. When prompted “Are you sure you want to change your privacy to private?” Select “Yes”. Continue to populate catch details under the Catch Position map, and select “Next”.
Step 3: Pro Stats
On the “Catch: 3 of 3” option, you will be prompted for catch information, what technique you used, water and weather conditions (most of which have been pre-populated with publicly-sourced NOAA marine buoy & USGS inland station monitoring data, but are editable!) and any additional notes you choose to add.
Last Step: Post Your Catch!
The last page you will be prompted with is Post Settings. Here, you will have the option of sharing your catch with the entire FishAngler community, or not. The default setting is public, or “Yes”. Tap the “Yes” to “No” and your catch is ready to post privately.
After selecting to share with the FishAngler community or not, you can then choose more specifically which Page or Groups you’d like to share with. Now you have full control over who sees your posts, if anyone.
We understand the importance of providing our community members tools to control the privacy of their fishing locations and fishing activity. We hope FishAngler app users feel comfortable finding the balance between being social and private that feels right to them.
